Blue Water Escrow Opens With New Orange County Building Signs

Orange County Building Signs: Blue Water Escrow of Newport Beach

Blue Water Escrow has just had Sign Clemente create and install the latest of our Orange County building signs.  This sign looks elegant and definitely catches the eye.  Take a look at the pic of our latest installation of Orange County building signs.

When Surterre Properties wanted to open its new escrow company, they turned to Sign Clemente.  The first thing we did was study the sign plan for their office park.  Orange County building signs are often governed by sign plans which restrict the type of sign a tenant may install.  We worked with the property owner, Irvine Company, to ensure that their Orange County building signs were in compliance.

More Than One Way to Make Orange County Building Signs

Most Orange County building signs are made one of two ways.  The non-illuminated variety are usually make of acrylic as a facing, and foam to provide depth.  As you look around at Orange County building signs, you will see this is usually the case.  This is a very economical way to make logos and letters. The illuminated variety are aluminum bodies with either acrylic faces for front lighting or aluminum faces for back lighting.  These are the most common types of Orange County building signs.

Blue Water Escrow’s sign is a notable exception.  These are stainless steel formed letters.  You will see the finer Orange County building signs made this way.  They are dimensional in that they are 2″ deep.  They are not solid stainless steel, but formed out of thick sheets of metal.  The stainless steel is brushed for a matte finish.  These letters make beautiful Orange County building signs.   Because they are stainless steel, and because of their rugged construction, they promise to be long-lasting and maintenance free.

How We Install These Orange County Building Signs

This type of building sign has studs that come out the back.  This makes it possible to stand the Orange County building signs off the wall 1/4″.  Standing letters off the wall provide for even more depth and dimension.  This requires us to drill into the concrete wall, which is common, to insert the studs with adhesive.  It makes for secure letters and outdoor signs.

More Orange County Building Signs

Another example of great looking outdoor signs is that of a company in San Clemente called Kelpac.

Another example of formed letters

Another example of formed letters

Kelpac was acquired by PPG industries.  They engaged in a re-branding effort and that involved their Orange County building signs.  What you see in the pic are formed letters like Blue Water Escrow except these are made of aluminum.  The logo is digitally printed and applied to the face.  These Orange County building signs really stand out!  They too were installed with studs drilled into the concrete wall. Kelpac can expect their signs to last and look great for years to come.

Don’t Scrimp on Orange County Building Signs

Studies by the Small Business Administration and others consistently show that outdoor signs are the best marketing investment you can make.  People often try to save money on their Orange County business signs.  We at Sign Clemente help you avoid unnecessary costs, but cheap signs that fade and disintegrate send a bad message to your public.  We call these “signs you can’t afford” because they are almost better than no signs at all.

And that’s it for Orange County Building Signs!

Signs Orange County: FitzPatrick [+] Prince

New Signs Orange County Edition

The firm of Fitzpatrick [+] Prince  needed a new sign for its new Irvine headquarters: so Sign Clemente answered their need for signs orange county.  The company is in the business of marketing high-end homes through image advertising, primarily using video and voice over.  The business park in which they reside has very strict guidelines for the signage, so we had to work a great deal of back and forth with the property’s design person.   The customer had very precise needs of their own for this of signs Orange County.

Signs Orange County: The Description

These letters are pegged off the wall about 1″ and are 5″ deep, so when you are looking at signs Orange County you see dimension.   The letters have white faces that contract nicely with the building and offer a clean, contemporary look with their silver edges (called returns).  LEDs offer huge advantages over neon, which used to be the illumination of choice.  But now most signs orange county use LEDs because they last much longer and comsume about 10% of the power that neon did.

The bodies of the letters are all aluminum, the preference for signs orange county, because they never rust.   Old letters will often have rust streaks running down the wall, but you will never see that from our Sign Clemente letters.

The picture to the right shows the newly installed building sign and the neck of the 45′ boom lift we used.

Signs Orange County: The Result

What the customer now has is a sign that represents their corporate look and feel.    Plus their signage guides you to your destination which means that they are now easy to find in their business park.  Their signage, which includes a lobby sign that we did for them, shows a sense of permanence.  Hence, a great looking sign addition to signs Orange County!

Making of Orange County Signs

Monument Sign is One of Our Latest Orange County Signs

orange county signs Going on our ninth year, Sign Clemente has finished one of the newest of Orange County signs: a new monument for the Lake Forest Business Center.  We love creating a new design, especially when it is tailored to the archetectural setting.  In this case it was the Lake Forest Business Center.   The owners’ association selected Sign Clemente for its design work and quality workmanship.  You can see  and read about our monuments here and here.

We designed in a monument that had lots of function- a quality of our Orange County Signs.   They wanted it to be very visible, so a newcomer would recognize it immediately.   It had to include the name of the center, the word “Directory” so the the onlooker would recognize its function, and a map that was readible and would help people find their destination.

Manufacturing Orange County Signs

003
There are a few things we at Sign Clemente never want to hear- that a sign did not last for the years it was intended to last, and that one of our seasonal wind storm took out one of our Orange County Signs.   So we build a monument like this one extra-tough because of its size.  As you can see in the pic, it is made of heavy-gauge aluminum.  This one of Orange County Signs also has an interior frame, which reinforces the structure.   The letters are enameled acrylic and solid.  The enamel is the same type used on autos, so you know it will last.  The directory is a digital print.   The customer only had a blurry jpeg image, but we were able to convert it to a usable format using design software.  The face is laminated and mounted to 3/4″ painted PVC and mounted to the surface of the monument.

Installing Orange County Signs

Blog Photo 2
Sign Clemente believes that proper installation of Orange County Signs is as important as using the right materials and coatings.   In this case, we poured a concrete base, or pad, for the monument structure to mount.   Then we bolted the structure down with six 1/2″ bolts from the inside.  The bolts lag into the concrete for a firm hold.  The monument sign can be opened from the back in case the structure needs to be serviced for some reason.

We are proud of our Orange County signs.   Over the course of our business, we have created and installed litterally thousands of signs and we can do the same for you.   We have gone back and looked at many of our signs that have been up and in the sun since our early days, and they are still looking great.

Here is an interesting video from one of our manufactures of foam-based signs.  Another option for your Orange County Sign needs:

Latest of Anaheim Signs: Spotlight on del sol

Preparing the surface for the del sol sign

The Making of Anaheim Signs

The del Sol inn is across the street from Disneyland; when they needed their Anaheim signs rebuilt, they turned to Sign Clemente.  del sol draws a sell-out crowd of visitors, and their Anaheim signs are vital to way finding and attracting guests.
The old sign face was faded and coming apart.  Not a good image for an inn serving the Magic Kingdom!   So they needed a renewed image for their Anaheim signs.

Anaheim Signs: What We Did

The monument sign- this one of many Anaheim signs- was in good condition.  It was the sign face that needed to be replaced.   The face to this one of Anaheim signs is shaped like an oven pan, or the lid of a shirt box.  It is made of heavy aluminum, so it is structurally tough and will never rust.  The face of this one of Anaheim signs is routed out and translucent acrylic is applied to the back.

Eye-Attracting Color and Anaheim Signs

The customer wanted to make sure that their Anaheim signs did not fade as quickly as the copy they had from their previous sign company.   We used a seven-year high performance vinyl.  It is translucent and shows the color nicely when lit.   The words “Anaheim Resort” are in a vinyl from 3-M called “Day/Night”.   It looks black during the day and white at night.  Nice!

Orange County Signs: Spotlight on Watermark Church

Monument: Orange County Signs

The Watermark Church in Costa Mesa just added theirs to the list of Sign Clemente’s Orange County signs.   This latest of Orange County signs was an existing and aging monument sign that badly needed refurbishing.   Being a leader in Orange County signs, the newly established Watermark Church contacted us.

Before

Doing the Job on Orange County Signs

The works on this of Orange County signs was to remove all the old letters, clean and sand and then paint some brighter and more attractive colors.  Then this of Orange County signs got new letters.

After!

Orange County Signs and Acrylic Letters

Sign Clemente then applied flat-cut acylic that was enameled to customer colors.  What you see is an attractive new addition to Orange County signs.    The customer loves their new monument sign and of course, we had it ready for their first service.

Not all of our Orange County signs are brand new.  Many times we make old signs new again, as we did here.

We have written quite a bit on foam signs vs. aluminum cabinets.  This one of Orange County signs happened to be an aluminum cabinet.  Aluminum provides a nice smooth finish as opposed to stucco, altough a stucco finish is much easier to paint.

Whether you want to refurbish what you already have or start anew, call Sign Clemente for all your Orange County Signs!

Vehicle Graphics Is Mobile Advertising

Check out one of Sign Clemente’s latest vehicle graphics installation!

Vehicle Graphics and Mobile Advertising

If you have a company van, box truck or any other vehicle, and you are not engaging in vehicle graphics, you are missing a golden advertising opportunity.  Vehicle graphics is virtually free adversting.  Think of the hundreds of pairs of eyes that your service and delivery vehicles pass ever day.   The more traffic, the more eyes see your message.

We at Sign Clemente have even prooven it to ourselves by having our own vehicle graphics generate phone calls that have turned into vehicle graphics, mobile advertising, business.

Three Main Ways to Advertise with Vehicle Graphics

One way to vehicle graphics is door magnets.   They can often look great, but there are a couple problems with this sort of vehicle graphics.  One is that they look temporary.   Often they look like the person with this sort of vehicle graphics is not proud of their business, and only wants their graphic showing part time.   The other is that they can blow off on the freeway.   Many car’s doors are no longer pure steel in that they are often alloys that contain non-ferous metals.  Magnets won’t stick well on many Volvos and Saturns for example.  Also, unless you dry the backs of the door magnets frequently, the moisture can close the clear coat on your paint finish.  Not Good!

Another way is vehicle wrap.  This is an attractive and compelling way to mobile advertising and vehicle graphics.  The wraps cover the entire vehicle and can really extend your message to all those eyes out there.  This is, however, and expensive way to go.  You will get a great return on your vehicle graphics, but plan on spending some cash up front.   You will need a graphic artist to design all the panels that will go on while paying particular attention to body hardware.  You don’t want a key phone number interrupted by a door handle!  Plan on about $3500 for the wrap itself, plus whatever time involved in the design process.   Sign Clemente can help you with this.

The most common way is cut graphics.  That is what you see in the video.  This is the most cost-effective way to go with vehicle graphics and mobile advertising.  We can include both digital prints and spot color. Plus, it takes a lot less time to install.  The vinyls we use are usually rated for at least five years for digital and seven for cut factory-colored vinyl.

If you have a fleet, or just one van or panel truck, give us a call.   We have been installing vehicle graphics now for over eight years and can make recommendations that can help get more customers calling you!

Orange County Signs, Your Constant Sales Person

Who Does Your Selling When You Are Not There?

Orange County Signs Do Your Selling

Z Tejas Sign Marks the Spot

Unlike employees, Orange County Signs never have to go home, never get sick, go on strike, take breaks or have bad days.  Orange County Signs sell for you 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  They sell for you whether you are there or not.

No wonder, study after study show Orange County Signs as your best marketing investment.  One such investment was made by the popular restaurant at the South Coast Plaza, Z Tejas.  Their food is great, but they had a visibility problem in spite of their  existing Orange County Signs.

South Coast Plaza- Orange County Signs

They called Sign Clemente for help.  We created and installed two signs in Orange County– one on a pilaster facing the parking lot, and the other in the mall itself.  Even though they had two signs in Costa Mesa to start, one was up very high, and hard to see when close to the building; the other was by one of the doors, but small.

The first of Orange County Signs was the pilaster sign.  It is made of aluminum for durability, and stud mounted directly into the stone.  One can’t but see that one is approaching the restaurant as they walk from parking lot to mall.  It has been there several months so far, and is holding up perfectly.

The second of Orange County Signs is a hanging sign inside the mall.  The restaurant has another entrance from the inside of the mall, but customers could walk right past it unaware that Z Tejas was so close.

We constructed a sign using PVC and acrylic.  On the PVC we applied a patina that is exclusive to Sign Clemente to emphasize their southwestern ambiance.  All other elements of the sign were enameled.

Orange County Signs are Built to Last

This is a unique sign among Orange County signs, and we wanted to make sure that it was properly fixed in place.  The hanging bars are stainless steel, threaded on the sign end, while the PVC it attaches to is also threaded.  Epoxy was added to ensure strength.  The bases are also stainless, and clamps on to the shafts.  Those bases screw into studs in the ceiling making one of the mall’s most stable of Orange County Signs!

Building Signs

In Orange County, Building Signs get your business noticed

Outdoor building signs are the number one way that new customers find businesses. The amazing thing about outdoor building signs is that they do their job and draw in customers even when you are not there; they are on-duty 365 days a year, rain or shine, and they always look good.

Given that the average outdoor sign lasts ten years, and rarely needs maintenance, it’s clear that  well designed, smartly-placed outdoor buidlign signs will repay their initial investment many times over. Good signage makes good sense. When building signs are modern, unique, and creative, they can’t help but attract new business.

Staples and Building Signs

Ever notice that the big-box stores like Staples and Ikea alway have such bigh building signs?  Consider how national brands and franchises are able to use  building signs to both draw the eye and remind customers of past visits. Branding and design are critical components of great signage, and we work closely with you to create the look and feel that’s perfect for your business. Or if you already have a well-designed and branded look, Sign Clemente can create the best sign for your space.

What goes into Building Signs?

One of the exciting aspects of outdoor building signs is the great variety in styles, materials, and lighting that we are able to utilize. We love to work with LED lights, which look fabulous and have the potential to be both halo lit and back lit, and thus really stand out sharply. Another great advantage to using LED is that it won’t fail the way that neon-lit signage can. Neon signs will generally begin to flicker or otherwise fail after a few years, but LEDs are typically expected to last at least 100,000 hours (which is more than 10 years). Not only that, on the rare occasion when an individual LED burns out, there are enough lights in any given letter that it’s not generally noticeable. While maintaining bulbs and keeping your lighted signs functioning is always important, you don’t want to have to be dealing with that sort of thing very often.

Whether we are creating signs for Irvine, San Clemente, or anywhere else in Orange County, a primary concern of ours is to design and build signs that last. We’ve all seen old, worn out signs, that have either been damaged by weather (which, in Southern California, would likely take decades), or have been destroyed by birds or other small animals. The latter happen with certain materials, such as foam, that are easy to peck at. We are able to prevent this by treating foam signs with a stucco finish around the edges. This is done by mixing paint and sand, and it gives letters a unique and artistic texture. It also protects against weather and wind far more than paint alone, and birds aren’t terribly interested in it!

We also often recommend using metal which, while more expensive than foam, has the benefit of lasting almost forever. Choosing the right type of metal is important; a sign with streaks of rust that run down the wall is unappealing, and customers tend to think that poorly maintained signs reflect a poorly maintained business. Using aluminum, rather than sheet metal, is one way that we insure good-looking metal  building signs that will stand the test of time. Paint adheres to aluminum especially well, which means that your signs won’t ever rust. And because we use automotive-grade paints, which are designed to deal with wind, rain, and heat, your signs will look beautiful for many years to come.

And now, read about Finding History In These Hills:  Building Signs Around Town; or, How to Make

If you looked up you could learn a lot about the building’s history. I would add that looking down also yields clues to the past. In Kerrville there are many signs of the past around town, not just old buildings, but real signs.

Adding to Orange County Signs: PPG Rebranding

PPG Buys Kelcourt Plastics and Needs New Orange County Signs

Kelcourt Plastics has been a thriving company in San Clemente for a number of years.   Last year PPG Industries acquired the company and renamed it Kelpac.  Hence it needed  new Orange County signs.  The Kelcourt Plastics were in pretty bad shape-  foam and plex Orange County signs that were rotting and faded.

It was definately a bad look!

New Orange County signs in San Clemente

Improved Materials for Improved Orange County Signs

Being PPG Industries, the customer wanted a strong professional look.  Sign Clemente was called in to help with the rebranding effort and new Orange County signs.   The new Orange County signs are constructed of enameled aluminum.  The logo, which is really stricking, is a digital print with a gloss laminate.

Installing Orange County Signs the Hard Way

As the backs of the aluminum Orange County signs are hallow, they cannot be mounted with tape and glue.  They have to be stud mounted which means lots of drilling for holes, hundreds of holes.  Since the building is concrete tilt up, that means lots of drilling into concrete and occasionally rebar.   These Orange County signs are not going anywhere!

The customer is enthused and they love their new and improved Orange County signs!

And check out this interesting article on restoration of an old painted sign.

New Orange County Signs

Look for New Orange County Signs

Sign Clemente is completing two new projects for Orange County signs.   One is for a rebranding effort for Adidas, the other for Chronic Tacos.  Both are lighted  Orange County signs, but very different from one another.

New Orange County Signs in Newport Fashion Island

The Adidas project uses halo lighting for this one of Orange County signs.  Halo lighting allows the light to shine out the back.  We use bright white LEDs for this affect.  (not shown in this pic)  This sign also uses push through acrylic.  We have written about push through before.  It is literally acrylic that pushes through the routed spaces in an aluminum panel and provides dimension.  The light shines through the edges of the acrylic and provide the glow you see in the pic to the left.  The affect makes for beautiful Orange County signs.

Chronic Tacos and Orange County Signs

You may have noticed Chronic Tacos popping up all over town.  They have lots of Orange County signs!  Currently, Sign Clemente is working on a new set of channel letters in Mission Viejo.

The store is already operating with lots of customers, so much the better once we install this latest of Orange County Signs.

Shine On Orange County Signs

We have written consistently about the value of lighted signs.  Especially for the two recognizable companies- Adidas and Chronic Tacos- these signs will definately attract new customers when they see the Orange County signs.

And here is an interesting article about illuminated signs that applies to Orange County Signs.

And an informative slide show demonstrating the application of LEDs to a light box similar to some of our Orange County Signs.

Outdoor Signs: Spotlight on Y-3

Adidas Rebranding Effort and Their Outdoor Signs

Adidas, it seems, is engaging in a considerable rebranding effort, which includes their outdoor signs.

Like their old signs, their new signs are to be lit.

We are doing two outdoor signs for the company, one in Newport Fashion Island, and the other in
La Jolla.
These outdoor signs are LED powered, and will look spectacular because they will be both halo lit and front lit.

Special Features to These Outdoor Signs

In addition to halo lighting, the new outdoor signs will have push through letters.  Push through as we explained before, as extra dimension to outdoor signs while the light emits from both the side and fronts of the letters.  See below:

New Irvine Signs

Latest of Irvine Signs- Focus On BioStructures

New Lobby Sign in Irvine

One of the newest Irvine signs is a lobby sign for BioStuctures.   This is one of our premium Irvine signs as it is made of 3/8″ thick brass.  It was heavy!  The lobby sign was cut out using water jet.  The this lastest of Irvine signs was ozidized in an acid bath and hand rubbed for the antique finish.
This latest of Irvine signs is mounted on studs to hold it off the mounting surface about 1/2″.

The Value of Irvine Signs In Your Lobby

Your brochure, your business card, your website; these are all graphical ways of creating ever-important impressions on your customers. Lobby  Irvine signs are no different. When your customer, vendor or investor walks through your door, what instantaneous message does he or she receive?

Well designed and crafted lobby Irvine signs say that you are serious about what you do, that you are in business to stay. Our Sign Clemente customers continue to tell us that they discover that they become credible with their lobby sign and selling becomes easier.

Delicate Installation and Irvine Signs

The wood on the face of the reception desk was so nice for the installation of this of the newest Irvine Signs, we had to be very careful.  We used a drill pattern to place the spots for the drilling.  We made our penetrations into the wood, and did not have to drill extra holes.  No mistakes!  The back of this brass sign has studs screwed into this latest of Irvine signs so all we had to do is push the whole structure into the holes.  It has spacers on the studs to hold it off 1/2″ from the wood surface.  The floating elements of the logo,  “b” and “o” have their own studs as well.

Look at some great lobby signs on You Tube!  We can produce any of these signs for you.  Not just Irvine signs, but all over Orange County and beyond.

Maintain Your Sign for Long-Term Results

Time and weather is the great enemies of outdoor signs. You must maintain your signs to get results from them over the long term.

Imagine going to a restaurant and noticing that their sign is full of bird nests.  Makes you wonder what else they are not maintaining, doesn’t it? If the sign is covered in dust and dirt, or broken, or missing pieces, will the customers have confidence in your business?

There are many new materials coming on the market today that have excellent weatherability.  Some manufacturers today are guaranteeing for life their plastics against fading or cracking.

The new LEDs are much longer-lasting than neon. LEDs also use less power.

While a great sign will bring customers, a poorly maintained sign will drive them away.  Make sure the materials to used in your new sign will last as long as you need them to.

When you have signs, inspect them regularly for cleanliness, aging and operability.  Don’t put off ordering a new sign if the old one makes you look bad.

Ensuring Your Signs Conform to Municipal Codes

When you order a sign, you must know about your local municipal code.  It is always wise to find out what is required before going for a sign permit or having your new sign manufactured. A good sign company will ask you about this before producing your sign.

There are at least two sets of criteria to be aware of.

Special Rules for Special Areas

Often business parks, historical areas and other developments will have their own sign criteria that are stricter than the city’s.  Be sure to check with your property manager or the city itself to find out if there is a sign criteria or “architectural overlay” before relying strictly on the city’s requirements.  Part of the approval exercise may include signoff by your landlord or property manager.

City Rules

The second item is the city itself.  You can avoid a lot of time and frustration by calling their planning department in advance and find out what is required.  You have the option of appealing the local sign code, called a “variance,” but be prepared for long waits and lots of work and frustration.

If there is one best area to plan ahead, this is it.  Cities are getting stricter about what sort of signs they will allow outside.  It is best to find out what they will accept early in the process of creating your signage.

Tailor Your Sign to Its Setting

A well-placed and attractive sign communicates the true flavor of your business to your ideal clientele. A well-designed signage reinforces your image. What is the best way to tailor your sign to its setting?

Sure, you want to stand out from the crowd. But be sure to temper your enthusiasm by maintaining harmony with your sign’s setting.  You don’t want to look like a pair of brown shoes in a tuxedo store!

Consider the other signs near your business.  Some of the beach communities prefer sand-blasted wood signs.  Some areas featuring lots of restaurants will be predominated by lighted dimensional signs.  Often you can stand out by having a simple but elegant sign, a great design or materials no one else is using.

Select a design that reflects the key strength of your company that your customers most value.  An outside designer or good sign company to help you achieve this balance.

Avoid TMI and TMM in Your Signs

TMM too many messages signs

TMM - Too Many Messages

When you want a sign for your business, you need to avoid two major problems:

TMM – Too Many Messages

We are barraged by thousands of messages daily.  Not only have we become good at absorbing lots of data, we are good at tuning out obnoxious messages.  Often a good, crisp presentation is best.

TMI – Too Much Information

You don’t need to inform your clientele of everything you can do. You just want to capture their interest to the point that they come in.  Maximum should be three to five words.  Leave 30 – 40% of your sign area blank.

Remember, distill your message to where you make your point with as few words as possible.  If you can’t fit your message on a bumper sticker, you have too many words.

Making Your Sign Stand Out and Show Up

obscured sign

If they can't see your sign, it isn't there.

Your business’s external outdoor signs should be of sufficient height and size without being obscured by objects such as trees, lampposts and so on.

Its content, both text and logo, must be legible.  It must stand out from its background.

If you hope that drivers and passengers in cars will see your sign, refer to this chart when selecting the size of your sign(s):

Preventing Outdoor Sign Failure | outdoor signs

Why do some outdoor signs fail?

We at Sign Clemente like to  take a look at why some outdoor signs fail so we can ensure that yours don’t.  Take a look at the photo.  These letters are what is called in the industry, “foam and plex”, meaning that they are made of acrylic (“plex”) laminated to foam.   We make lots and lots of outdoor signs out of these materials.   It is hard to say what ruined  these outdoor sign letters, it could have been the weather, but in Southern California, it is doubtful.   Birds like to peck at foam sometimes, and that is the more likely scenario .
What can be done to prevent this?  We like to add a stucco finish to the edges of the foam on outdoor signs.   Stucco finishes are really just thick paint that has been mixed with sand.  The rough edges give the letters a creative-looking texture, but more importantly, the coating provides a great deal more protection against hostile elements than paint alone.  Birds don’t enjoy pecking at stucco, and the thicker coating is just more durable.

Metal Letters and Outdoor Signs

Another way to prevent sign failure with outdoor signs is by going with metal letters.  Sure they do cost more, but they last a lifetime.  The industry used to incur failures when metal letters were made of sheet metal.   Sheet metal is a soft alloy that usually has a galvanized coating.  However, it is primarily a ferrous metal and can rust even with the best paint job when used for outdoor signs.  Sometimes you see rusting letters with streaks of rust running down the wall.  Not a pretty sight!  That sign owner would be better off without outdoor signs, because a failing sign like that represents a failing business in the mind of a would-be customer.

The best prevention of  rusty  outdoor signs is aluminum.  Sign Clemente rarely uses sheet metal these days, relying on aluminum.  This metal is more expensive, especially because its manufacture is so labor intensive.  However, paint sets up well on aluminum and it will never rust.  And speaking of paint, we like to use automotive-grade enamels that look great and last for years and years on outdoor signs.
Another failing that we all see often is when  neon outdoor signs becomes defective.  Sometimes the entire sign goes completely dark, but more often you see some of the letters lit, and some out.  When you see a neon sign partially out for weeks and week, you have to wonder how well the sign owner manages its business.  The cause can be several things:  detoriorating wiring, broken or cracked neon or just a transformer that has finally failed.   It often takes a sign installer hours to repair a neon sign by the time he diagnoses the problem and runs off to secure the replacement parts and reinstall.

Who Turned Out The Lights in Those Outdoor Signs?

The remedy for neon failure is LED lighting.  We rarely use neon either.  Not only do LEDs require about 1/10th the power, but they are much more reliable when used for outdoor signs.  You can expect to have problems with your neon sign in about three to five years.  However, LEDs are usually rated for at least 100,000 hours.  Even if one or two LEDs go out, there are enough LEDs in a letter to disguise the fact that one has failed.

Having great-looking and long-lasting outdoor signs requires a little planning and sometimes a bit more investment up front.  But the payback is outdoor signs that keep on selling for you day in and day out for years to come.

Postscript:  You just might get a kick out of this blog from Signs of the Times Magazine:

It’s Better Outdoors | Signs of the times

For years, I’ve been driving past this sign that appears to be in the process of being swallowed by the tree it’s nailed to. Finally today I stopped to take a photo, and I discovered there are at least three of the  outdoor signs.

First-time Customers Find You with Your Outdoor Signs

Your outdoor signs should be your first consideration in your marketing and promotion plan.

Why?  Consider these facts:  Since 1997, a group of 488 Southern California businesses collectively polled their 7,200 first-time customers asking how they found out about them.

Here are the results:

  • Your  Outdoor Signs –  46%
  • Word of Mouth  –  38%
  • Newspaper Ads  – 7%
  • Yellow Pages – 6%
  • Radio Commercial – 2%
  • Television Commercial – 1%

Clearly two conclusions about outdoor signs jump out:

  1. Their outdoor signs were effectively speaking to potential customers.
  2. Signs are the most effective form of advertising for the small and independent businessperson who has a public store or office.

When buying outdoor signs, don’t be too concerned about how much you can save on outdoor signs. Be more concerned about how you can bring in more paying customers. If you do that, the signage will pay for itself many times over.

What’s more, outdoor signs work for you 24/7, never need a break, never get sick and rarely need maintenance.  If you amortize the cost of a sign over its ten year useful life, you find that outdoors signs are a bargain indeed!

You Can’t Afford Cheap Orange County Signs

restaurant's V-shaped sign
After: More effective sign brings in more business

Orange County Signs on the Cheap?

Often businesspeople buy signs as an afterthought.  They wait until their budget is nearly cleaned out and attempt to get away with buying the cheapest Orange County signs they can get away with.  These are signs you can’t afford.  If you are not confident that your new sign will pay for itself, then your wasting your money.

The purpose of Orange County signs is to attract new customers, brand your location in the minds of consumers and create impulse sales.  A sign is often the only visible cue that a business exists!  Therefore, it should be to predominant feature of your building.

Consider the case of Frenchy’s Bistro, opened by a husband and wife in the mid-1990’s.  It is located on a four-lane road with lots of traffic in Southern California.  After healthy growth, revenues leveled off at $250 thousand and wouldn’t budge.  They attracted a local clientele from the immediate neighborhood and were known as “that restaurant next to the paint store.”  Their signage was so poor, that they were not bringing in hungry passing motorists.

A friend suggested a better sign.  They selected a V-shaped sign, internally illuminated,  to mount to the side of their building.

Great Success with Great Orange County Signs

The result?  Their sales grew 16% in the first year.  Sales in the second year increased to 32%.  By the fourth year, they expanded into a space next door and grew a total of 322% or over $823,000.

The Hot Tip with Orange County Signs

Tip: Spend time and money to ensure you have Orange County signs that make a positive impression on your marketplace. Your Orange County signs should be conspicuous, reflective of your company’s look and feel, and remain easy for your customer to recall.

Irvine Signs | Spectrum International

The latest addition to Irvine Signs

New Irvine signs at Spectrum International’s new corporate headquarters

The newest Irvine signs are found at Spectrum International.  They selected Sign Clemente for their

Irvine signs.  Spectrum International is in the business of high-end auctions.  They have a wine division and a coin division, just to name two. Their building and Irvine signs can be seen right off the north-bound Newport Freeway just before the Dyer exit.

What are those Irvine Signs?

Spectrum has three new Irvine signs.  The photo shows non-illluminated acrylic on foam that rises above their entrance.  A proud and exquisite look!  The other two Irvine signs face the freeway.  Both are lighted  Irvine signs using power saving white LED’s.  One is for Spectrum Wine Auctions, the other is for Spectrum International.

Shining Irvine Signs

Lots of studies show that Irvine signs can be the best marketing investment a company can make.  Think of the thousands of pairs of eyes that will see those shining Irvine signs as they travel up the freeway.   These  signs will be invaluable for years to come for establishing market presence.  Survey after survey shows that business report getting more new customers from their signs than radio, print advertising, television or direct mail.  Further, the cost per contact, which is defined as each time someone sees your message, is absolutely the least expensive of all.

Lobby Signs | Spotlight on Honeywell

lobby signsNew Lobby Signs

Honeywell International bought out Sperian Safety Products which required the latter to need new signs: specifically lobbys signs.  So who did Honeywell turn to when they needed new signs?  Why Sign Clemente of course.  Honeywell’s lobby signs are fairly simple, although they are fairly specific as to their color matching.  For Honeywell’s lobby signs, we went with 1/2″ thick PVC sheeting enameled white.  Then we used acrylic for the letters for their lobby signs.

Add Dimension to Your Lobby Signs

Adding thickness to lobby signs elements adds dimension and makes the the sign more interesting.  A back panel like the one you see in the photo adds the right background color instead of relying on whatever the color of the wall happens to be.  In this case, a clean white background provides the most pop for their lobby signs.  The letters are 3/4″ thick for these lobby signs making the name “Honeywell” prominent.  Because the letters “Safey Products” are smaller, we went with 1/4″ thick letters.  One thing about dimension and lobby signs:  if letters are too thick, they become difficult to read from an angle.

The Right Materials for the Right Lobby Signs

The right materials can mean the difference between great lobby signs and mediocre lobby signs.  We like acrylic because of its durability, its clean edge when cut from a router, and the way enamel paints look.  For lobby signs, we call acrylic the “king of the plastics”.   For the back panel, PVC works well for lobby signs.  Because PVC sheeting is injected with air, it weighs less than other materials, so the entire sign is lighter and the danger of the sign weighing too heavily on the wall is not a factor.   Receptionists often worry about the lobby signs right behind them coming down during an earthquake!

Read a little history about Honeywell….  Interesting how much their products touch our lives.

Shine On Irvine Signs | Spotlight on AbregovParrino

Lighted Irvine Sign Shines Above the Rest

AbregovParrino, a CPA and investment management firm in Irvine has a spectacular set of Irvine signs.   We originally created and installed two lobby Irvine signs for them that now greet clients as they enter the firm’s lobby.  Months later, they continued to enhance their marketing efforts by adding a new lighted building sign for their Irvine signs.  Again, the firm turned to Sign Clemente.

A “Reverse” Letter? The Making of Irvine Signs

To be a stand-out amoung Irvine signs, this illuminated sign needed to be extraordinary.  We acheived this by constructing reverse channel letters.  These are letters that are literally made to be turned around.  The letters shine through the back, rather than the front thereby creating the halo effect you see in the photo.  The lighting comes from white LEDs.  LED technology is prooving advantageous to neon, because for Irvine signs, it saves significantly on power and long life.

Irvine Signs Shine Over Irvine

Their Irvine signage shines over Irvine Center Drive right off the 405 Freeway and can be seen both day and night.  The sign is a proud addition to Irvine signs as drivers pass it all day long.  It sells for AbregovParrino 24 hours a day.

In other news…

OK, this is pretty snarky, and maybe offensive to some- but interesting to read about restrictions on Irvine signs.

Irvine Signs | Spotlight on Irvine Law Firm

New Lobby Irvine Signs

The law firm of Dack | Marasigan choose Sign Clemente for its new Irvine Signs.   For their lobby sign, the newest addition to Irvine Signs, they choose a design similar to the Milan Institute sign you see in our lobby gallery.

Millan Institute loves their reception signs as they reorder one each time they open a new location.

Construction of the New Irvine Signs

The new Irvine Signs– the new lobby sign- is of clear acrylic.  When clear acrylic is routed from flat sheets to make Irvine signs, the router bit leaves the edges with a frosty look.  It is a striking and unusual look as you can see in the photo.  The large elements of this one of Irvine signs is 1″ thick.  The smaller letters are 1/2″ thick.  The faces of all the letters are brushed aluminum.  The bar is face painted black enamel.  An attractive lobby addition to our Irvine signs!

Lobby Signs and Irvine Signs

Business is vibrant and growning in Irvine.  What a better way to cement your corporate image in the minds of your clients and potential clients with a lobby sign.  They are among the most effective of Irvine signs, as they show your customer that you are here to stay, a professional, and are proud of your firm.  Lobby signs build credibility, and in so doing, make your selling job that much easier.

Irvine Signs | Irvine Signage, The Bumper Guy

The Bumper Guy Gets New Irvine Signs

Congrats go to the The Bumper Guy for new Irvine Signs.  The Bumper Guy, part of OC Bumper & Body, choose Sign Clementefor Irvine Signs.  The customer choose to go with an illuminated set of letters.  The construction is no-rust aluminum, the faces are acrylic.  The black and white faces that you see in the Irvine Signs photo consist of white acrylic with a black vinyl inset.

LED’s and Irvine Signs

LED’s have become so much more practical and economical than even two years ago.  We almost always use LED’s now for Irvine Signs.  Neon, the choice of
customers in the past, requires 12,000 volts, special wiring that has to be shielded, and lots of power consumption.  Neon also requires servicing about every five years.  When ever you sign illuminated Irvine Signs the have letters that are not lighting, you can bet it is neon.  LED, on the other hand, is rated for about 100,000 hours of use.  Even still when LED powered Irvine Signs have an LED failure, it is usually only one of the lights, which means the other lights will still be working.  So when LED powered Irvine Signs have one light go out, you can’t tell because the other lights are still shining.

Irvine SignsThe Bumper Guy and Irvine Signs

Shine on, Irvine Signs

OC Bumper and Body now has two Irvine Signs– their original sign and now, their The Bumper Guy Sign.  The first one was produced by another sign company, and the new one was produced by Sign Clemente.  The Sign Clemente sign literally outshines the old one!  The white outline looks like edge neon– it shines that bright.  Now you can see their sign off Irvine Center Drive, to the left of the Big O Tire sign and just to the right of the VOLVO | SAAB sign.

New Signs for Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery | Newport Beach Signs

Newport Beach Signs

This lobby sign greets patients visiting the Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery

New Newport Beach Signs

The Gallery of Costmetic Surgery gets new Newport Beach Signs.  Shown here, their lobby sign looks particularly attactive.  This one of Newport Beach signs is made of acrylic sheeting and cut on a computer-driven router.  The ‘G’ of this one of Newport Beach signs are 3/4″ thick and the smaller elements are 1/4″ thick.  The text is 1/2″ thick.  The ‘G’ also has beveled edges.  This all gives this one of Newport Beach signs more depth and dimension.  The acrylic gets its color from a high grade industrial enamel.

This sign did offer a challenge among Newport Beach signs, and that is that is was to be mounted to a concave wall.  Usually Sign Clemente lobby signs go on completely flat walls.  Fortunately, acrylic has enough bend to it that it was a problem– aluminum would have been.

Newport Beach Signs Create Image

The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery was most concerned about image.  Being in Newport Beach, and considering the upscale nature of the practice, the customer was concerned about creating an elegant image with its Newport Beach signs.  Therefore, we were extra careful with helping them select the best shades of color and materials.

Newport Beach Signs for the Building

Next up, the Gallery will get new letters on their building which can only attract new patients.  It will be dark bronze “foam and plex” with a stucco finish on the edges to deter birds and make this one of Newport Beach signs last a good long time.  Stay tuned for this one– we just need to get the biggest boom lift we can find and get those letters up there!

And that is it for Newport Beach Signs!

Permits and Irvine Signs

Difficulty with Irvine Signs?

We often hear people complain about the strictness of Irvine Signs. The City of Irvine

Seen off the 5 Frwy and Jamboree

maintains a reputation for strict municipal code when it comes to Irvine signs—that is true. However, one thing we do like about Irvine signs is that the City is very clear about their sign code so therefore it is easy to know what is acceptable and what is not.

Orange County Signs: What will that sign cost?

Cutting Corners on Orange County Signs

A Lake Forest Sign

Any short cut you take when you purchase your Orange County signs may reduce your upfront cost, but it will most likely reduce your

sign’s effectiveness and thereby decrease your return. That short cut can cost you in lost revenue in the long run.

If you were going for a job interview, or wanted to impress a certain someone, would you get the cheapest haircut you could find? Would you be proud of the bargain clothes you were wearing? The answer is no because you intuitively know that a nice appearance would be worth the extra cost because of the return you would expect from your investment. (see our other blog on the subject.)

Back when I was taking college courses in economics, my professors would to love to say, “Any time you can spend $1.00 to make $2.00, do it.”

Top Reasons for Orange County Signs

So here are the top reasons why Orange County signs will produce one of your best returns on your marketing dollar:

1) Get noticed. Effective Orange County signs can place you up front in visibility even if you are hidden from view. Real estate with high visibility to passers by goes for a premium. But an effective Orange County signs can give you that all-important exposure that brings in new customers. Plus—and we have all done it—people often remember an item that they need to pick up, reminded by the appropriate Orange County signs. That is why companies like IKEA, Best Buy and Staples always invest in the largest Orange County signs possible.

2) Unlike employees, Orange County signs sell for you 24 hours a day, seven days a week. And they never get sick, take breaks or have unproductive days. Potential customers are reminded of your presence and what you offer day after day. With effective Orange County signs, it will be you they think of you when they need your product or service.

3 As effective and important as Orange County signs are to your marketing efforts, they are also the least expensive. Traditional advertising, print, radio and television, are expensive. Plus they have temporary impact. That is, use it today and then it’s gone. But Orange County signs are paid for once, then it does its job year after year; it becomes a permanent asset.

According to the Small Business Administration, to reach 1,000 adults Orange County signs cost as little as 5 cents. Meanwhile, newspaper advertising will cost an estimated $3.00 for the same exposure.

Ask Not… About Orange County Signs

So instead of asking, “How much will my Orange County signs
cost?” Be sure to ask, “How much will it pay?”

We Love Lake Forest Signs

Creating and Installing Lake Forest Signs

Sign Clemente has installed signs all over Orange County, but one of our favorites is Lake Forest signs. The reason is that the City of Lake Forest is one of the easier cities with which to work.

Orange County signs can often be difficult to get permitted because of municipal restrictions. This is especially true in the south county cities. But Lake Forest signs find that the city is sign friendly.

One of Our First Lake Forest Signs

Foam Monument with Enameled Aluminum Letters

One of our first Lake Forest signs was Impact Marketing. They put together comprehensive marketing programs for the real estate industry. They wanted a contemporary look leaning to the avant-garde and creative. We came up with a clean and simple design, but one that stood out among Lake Forest Signs.

Display It! is another Lake Forest company we enjoy working

Creative ADA Signs

with. Among other designs, they have been renovating a number of retirement homes around the west. Our Lake Forest signs with them have been high-end custom ADA signs. Being ADA compliant doesn’t have to mean boring, and these Lake Forest signs have proven that.

One of our newest customers of Lake Forest signs is NaturesImage. This company restores natural habitats. They recently moved into a new business and called on Sign Clemente for their Lake Forest signs. We fabricated and installed some metal building letters and a foam-based monument. (see our blog on building signs and foam monuments)

Our Long-Time Favorite of Lake Forest Signs

Finally, one of our most favorite Lake Forest signs is Paws Pet Resort. We used a combination of acrylic, foam and digital prints to create this most creative of Lake Forest signs. After looking at these Lake Forest signs, stop by and say hello to the friendly dogs!
